The Impact of AI on Job Security: Exploring the Rise of Automation in Content Creation

With the advancement of AI and the emergence of numerous startups, concerns about personal job security are on the rise. The Wall Street Journal reports that companies across various industries are beginning to lay off employees and replace them with AI technologies, which offer improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness.¹ Consequently, companies are internally reevaluating their human workforce requirements and adopting a more deliberate approach to hiring, considering the tasks that AI can perform or automate. An analysis of a specific industry reveals that almost any job can be automated.

Digital content marketing once required large amounts of expertise, time, equipment, and financial resources to create captivating advertisements. However, the availability of AI tools has revolutionized this process. Businesses can now easily find AI software that can generate videos tailored to their marketing objectives. Synthesia, for instance, enables users to create AI avatar-driven short videos based on any given script within minutes. It allows for the creation of how-to guides, training materials, and product marketing videos with customizable and lifelike AI robots.²  Reportedly, Synthesia saves customers $5,000 per video, reduces production time by 50%, and increases engagement by over 30%.³ Another video-specific AI  startup, Synthesys, facilitates the creation of text-to-voiceover media presentations in minutes, which are ideal for commercials, explanatory videos, and product tutorials.² Pictory’s software can instantly transform scripts, online articles, or images into videos. As an experiment, Pictory was used to create a video based on this blog post, which can be found below.

These examples barely scratch the surface of AI video creation capabilities. What's even more astonishing is that these software tools eliminate the need for prior editing skills to produce high-quality videos. Moreover, AI software like ChatGPT can generate scripts when provided with a prompt, further streamlining the content creation process.

However, it is important to note that AI can also aid individuals in content creation. For instance, the VFX team behind the Oscar-nominated film Everything Everywhere All At Once utilized Runway's green screen tool to automate the rotoscoping process, reducing a 5-hour task to just 5 minutes.⁴ Automating specific processes can benefit many creative jobs, but individuals must be prepared to learn and implement these new approaches; otherwise, they risk falling behind.
