Creating a Commercial Using Runway's AI "Frame Interpolation" Tool

Runway, a leading AI research company focused on advancing art, entertainment, and human creativity, offers a wide range of AI generative video and photo tools in its Gen-1 release.¹ One tool that particularly impressed me during my previous experience with Runway was the "Video to Video" feature, which seamlessly combined video and text to produce an entirely new clip. Encouraged by this success, I decided to explore another tool called "Frame Interpolation" and create a short commercial for Gund. 

The “Frame Interpolation” AI Magic Tool quickly and effortlessly generates smooth transitions between uploaded images, resulting in fluid video output.² To begin the process, locate and click “Generate videos” on the left side panel, and then select “Frame Interpolation.”

 

Next, choose a series of images to construct your video. Opting for similar images will yield a realistic outcome, while diverse images will produce a more abstract result.² For this commercial, I selected comparable images of a plush rabbit in pristine condition and another image portraying the same plush after being cherished by a child for several years.

 

Once you've made your image selections, upload them to the Magic Tool assets. Then, determine a desired clip duration of up to 10 seconds per image. Once you're satisfied, click on "Generate."

After generating the video, you can preview it and make any necessary adjustments to the clip duration or edit the images as needed. When you're content with the final outcome, click "Export."

 

Your video will be available under "Assets" in the left sidebar, where you can download it.

Once again, I am thoroughly impressed with Runway's AI-powered video generation capabilities. The tool successfully interpolated the two images, effectively telling the story of the plush toy's journey in a concise 20-second clip. While there are some minor imperfections to address (looking at you, plush rabbit eyes), these issues can be resolved either through enhanced user editing options or future advancements in the system. I genuinely enjoy Runway's user-friendly interface and its array of Magic Tools. I eagerly await the company's future innovations as they persistently push the boundaries of creativity and entertainment. Through their efforts, they are turning previously unattainable possibilities into tangible realities, leveraging the power of time and technology.
